If an upcut gives you a great bottom finish and a down cut a great top finish, why not have both with a compression cutter! A compression cutter starts with an up cut component usually the length of the diameter (e.g. ⅛” has a ⅛” up cut component and the rest to down cut) so get the full benefit of the cutter, your first plunge must go below that length (e.g. ⅛” or more). Compression cutters like to run a bit faster than other wood cutting bit to get the best finish along the side of your material.

Suitable for

  • Composite Materials (not ACP/ACM)
  • Laminate
  • Melamine
  • Melamine Particle Board
  • MDF/HDF
  • Veneered Plywood
  • Softwood

Not advisable

  • Hardwoods

Adam’s Tips

Albeit compression bits are primarily used for slot cutting, you can still profile cut as long as you go past the up cut component. This will give you both a perfect bottom and top finish.

Do not use these bits to drill holes or start a profile cut with a straight plunge. Use a ramp in to ensure the longevity of the end mill.

    Perfect for application

Posted by Brian Miller on 17th Feb 2023

17mm flute no trouble slotting 9-15mm soft ply, single pass, max speed/rpm=18,000/18,000 with 4.5kW spindle. Took Adam's advice, get the shortest flutes for application and bit deep into collet. Great finish, bit was warm but not hot, still feels sharp after 10 sheets.

    Seriously impressive

Super happy with this purchase. Even though my personal machine cant take full advantage of the quality of this bit, I've seen this exact bit on my mate's 5 meter machine do 14mm depth of cut passes for month's on end!

    4mm compression bit

Posted by Julian James on 3rd Jan 2023

Excellent sharp bit. I am using this for pocketing and cutout/contouring in hardwood and MDF. The bit produces a clean cut. I have been running it at 1800mm/min and 12-14000 rpm and 50% DOC with good results. This bit could probably take a more aggressive cut as well.

    Awesome Value for Money!

Posted by Geordie Hansen on 6th Jun 2022

I run these bits (6mm, 22mm cut) length through 10mm+ thickness MDF all day everyday on a big MultiCam router at high speeds, in a single pass with no issues. Cut quality is beautiful and they last a long time (easily a few months each). Love it! :)
