Used in sign-making and detail work, V-bits are great for carving intricate design in detail on a wide range of materials. V-bits add depth and dimension where the same result cannot be achieved with a flat bit. These are a 1 flute cutter so the finish on softer material will leave a slight burr.

Suitable for

  • Plastics (ABS, acrylic, HDPE etc.)
  • Wood
  • Soft Metals

Adam’s Tips

A V bit is a great alternative to a small diameter straight cutter in engraving very fine detail. Use a smaller degree bit with a finer tip to achieve width of cuts smaller than 0.5mm. It is advisable to test on some scrap your carve to dial in the desired result.

As expected, great quality. The 90 degree bits have a nice long cutout, perfect for those who like to sharpen or reshape their V bits on a bit grinder.

1 FLUTE V BIT CARBIDE ENGRAVING BIT

At the Men's Shed we use this bit a great deal for engraving lettering, using our CNC router, in soft and hard wood, plastic, brass and aluminium. We run it at about 20000 RPM, with a depth of cut from 0.5 to 1.5 mm. It seems a good angle (30°) to get depth at the right width of cut.

This bit performed well, good value for money. Including recommended feeds and speeds and DOC would be helpful as a starting point, as the tip will snap off if you get it wrong to start with.
